Passionate about justice? Got an analytical and questioning mind? Want to achieve great things with a career in the criminal justice system? With a BA Hons Top-Up Degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice, we’ll equip you with the skills and experience for success.
Build on the knowledge you learnt during your Foundation Degree, and continue to focus on enhancing your practical, work-based skills, academic understanding and professional abilities. For each module, you will concentrate on developing research, leadership and problem solving skills, preparing you for a rewarding career in criminal justice.
All our course content stays on top of the current trends and latest changes in the sector. You’ll learn from case studies and simulation exercises; close links with top employers and a range of talented guest speakers; and a mix of formal teaching and presentations.
By the end of the degree, you will have everything you need to follow an exciting career path in the public or private or sector, working in forensic psychology, law enforcement, legal practice and across the prison, probation and civil services.

• Recognition of prior learning/experience will be accepted in line with University policy and procedures.
• Foundation Degree or HND, or an equivalent Level 5 qualification in a related subject
How will I be assessed?:
The course includes a range of lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical sessions, guest speakers / visits, independent study. You’ll take part in both individual and groups assessments, including:

Course Associated Costs:
All of the books required for the course are available either from the library or as e-books. However, many students choose to buy some of the core textbooks for the course and/or a laptop.
You may also need to print assignments and other documents. Campus printing costs start from 5p per page.
Estimated costs are £300 for a laptop and up to £50 each year for books and printing.
If your course includes dissertation research, you may also need to factor in travel costs to your place of research.
You will need to have an enhanced DBS check for this course to ensure you meet both our and industry safeguarding requirements. Please note there is an additional cost to your course fees to cover Disclosure and Baring Service (DBS) checks. Please see the GOV.UK website for DBS costs.
Staff profile:
Our staff are all experienced lecturers, each with a wealth of knowledge and industrial experience from the criminal justice sector. You will learn from current professional practitioners, like criminal lawyers and forensic phycologists. Our whole team regularly update their knowledge and skills, with strong links to Manchester Metropolitan University. All staff have, or are working towards a higher-level Master’s qualification.

You may be required to attend an interview and complete an interview task.
If you’re a mature applicant (aged 21 or over), and can to demonstrate relevant skills or knowledge gained in employment or vocational activity, we’ll consider your application and may invite you to an interview.

Develop both general skills and knowledge specific to your discipline, with your own extended research project. You’ll discuss your ideas with tutors, undertake a Literature Review of your chosen topic, formulate a research proposal, with specific questions – and then carry out your own research.
